To keep your gel nails looking fresh and fabulous:
- Avoid using your nails as tools (no opening cans!)
- Apply cuticle oil or moisturiser daily to keep your nails and skin hydrated
- Wear gloves when doing chores like washing dishes to protect your manicure.
With a little TLC, your gel nails can last even longer!
To extend the life of your peel-off manicure, try applying a thin layer of Soak Off Base Coat just to the tips of your nails before your regular peel-off base coat. This simple step helps prevent lifting at the edges, ensuring your nails stay perfect for longer while still being gentle on your nails.
Peel-off manicures can start lifting at the edges if the polish is touching your cuticles or skin when applied, as this creates a ridge as your nail grows that can lead to peeling. Ensure your nails are clean, free from moisturizers and oils, and that the polish is applied carefully, avoiding the skin around your nails. Additionally, applying a small amount of Soak Off Base Coat just to the tips of your nails before the base coat can help prevent lifting and extend the life of your manicure.
To remove a peel off gel manicure or pedicure simply pick at an edge and peel away. To avoid damaging your nail it is best to start at the base or side of your nail and peel towards the tip. For easiest removal that is most gentle to your nails, soften gel by soaking nails in warm water, running under a warm tap, or in the bath or shower before peeling.
To remove your soak-off manicure, start by gently buffing the surface of your nails to break the seal of the top coat. Then, soak your nails in acetone using either a Soak Off Removal Wrap or a cotton ball soaked in acetone wrapped in foil. Let your nails soak for 10-15 minutes. Use a cuticle stick or triangle polish remover tool to gently push the polish away from the nail, starting at the base near the cuticle. If the polish doesn’t peel off easily, allow your nails to soak a bit longer. Once removed, gently buff away any residue, and finish by moisturizing your nails and cuticles.
The longevity of your manicure depends on how well your nails are prepared, the application technique, and the daily wear and tear your nails experience. Typically, peel-off manicures can last up to 10 days, while soak-off manicures may last up to 3 weeks. Remember, results can vary from person to person, and it might take a few tries to perfect your technique.
Pedicures however can last much longer! It is likely you will only need to remove and redo pedicures when your nails have grown out and are needing a trim!
Like most salon and at-home gel polishes containing Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate (HEMA) (which creates long-lasting and glossy results), a small number of people may develop an allergic reaction. Symptoms might include redness, swelling, peeling, or itching. However, when the polish is used correctly and as instructed, the chances of an allergic reaction are very low.
To minimise the risk, be sure to follow the application steps carefully and ensure each layer is cured for the full 60 seconds. Make sure all nails are fully under the lamp to guarantee a proper cure. For best results and to avoid under-curing, we recommend using only Thursday at Eight products together, and make sure to remove the protective blue film from the base plate of your lamp to improve light reflection. Ensure you are leaving a small gap between the polish and your cuticles, and wipe off any excess product from your skin before curing.
If you suspect you’ve had an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and consult with your doctor.
Yes, it is normal to feel some warmth when curing the polish, this is part of the gel polish hardening from liquid to solid. Our lamp includes a low heat setting to make the process more comfortable if you have sensitive hands. You may find that you feel more warmth sometimes, and no heat at all at other times.
If your polish has gone thick or clumpy in the bottle, this is generally an indication that it has either been stored incorrectly or has been exposed to UV light. Make sure the lid is on tightly, and the polish stored in a cool place out of direct sunlight when not in use. When using the polish, make sure the open bottle and the brush are not within direct light from the sun or your UV light, as this will cause the polish to begin to set.
If your polish is clumpy when you receive it, please email us at hello@thursdayateight.co.nz
